Writer, performance reader, workshop leader and proof-reader and editor.
I write science fiction, fantasy and the occasional horror story, though my fiction is usually one of these as a main genre, with elements of the others. I dabble in poetry as well, but mainly write fiction. I run a monthly free spoken word evening at The Draper’s Arms in Peterborough, at which I and other local writers read work aloud.
I am an experienced workshop leader and am currently running writers’ workshops and self-publishing workshops at Spalding Library, and start a run of them at Huntingdon Library in the autumn. I have a series of 9 writers’ workshops and another of 5 self-publishing workshops, most of which include a PowerPoint presentation, with assignments and handouts. I worked as a professional trainer for 5 years and as an evening class tutor for 5 years, and have City & Guilds FE Teacher and Youth Training Award qualifications. My degree is in Geology and Planetary Science – perfect for a science fiction writer! I also do some geology presentations with a practical aspect, and completed a C & G Fashion qualification (which allowed me to get onto the FE Teachers’ course).
I also offer proof-reading & editing services. I came 5th in the country in English Language and Literature A level so I have an excellent command of the language.
